Max Verstappen will aid the stewards at this weekends Marrakesh e-Prix as part of his punishment for his incident with Esteban Ocon at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Verstappen and Ocon collided in Brazil last year after the Frenchman attempted to un-lap himself but Verstappen closed the door and the pair spun costing Verstappen victory. Ocon was handed a penalty in the race but Verstappen confronted Ocon on the weigh bridge post race which led to Verstappen shoving Ocon multiple times. Verstappen was summoned to the stewards and found guilty of “deliberate physical contact”, his punishment was two days of community service.
“While sympathetic to Verstappen’s passion, the Stewards determined that it is the obligation of sportsmen at this level to act appropriately and as role models to other drivers at all levels and found that Verstappen failed in this respect.” The FIA stated in their bulletin issuing the penalty.
It has now been confirmed what this community service will entail, Verstappen will be assisting the stewards at this weekends Marrakesh e-Prix. Verstappen will begin his community service on Saturday morning and assist the stewards throughout all sessions of the e-Prix.
