Perez confirmed at Racing Point Force India

Ahead of the United States Grand Prix Racing Point Force India confirm that Sergio Perez will fill one of it’s seats for 2019 taking him to his sixth consecutive season with the team.

Otmar Szafnauer, Racing Point Force India Team Principal Racing: “I’m pleased that Sergio will continue his journey with us in 2019. Over the last five years, Sergio has confirmed his position as one of the most talented and consistent drivers on the Formula One grid. He gives us valuable stability going forward and is a huge asset to the team. As we begin an exciting new chapter in the life of this team, we are delighted that Sergio will race with us going forward.”

The announcement comes as no surprise with Lance Stroll widely expected to take the second seat in the team now owned by a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll after Force India went into administration during the summer.

Perez has scored 5 podiums with the team and claimed a podium finish earlier this season in Baku.

“I am very happy to finally announce my future and I’m really motivated for 2019. Force India has been my home since 2014 and has allowed me to grow as a driver and show my skills on track.” Perez said in the teams press release.

“We have achieved so much success in the last five seasons but I think the best is yet to come. The new investment the team is enjoying fills me with confidence and I am really excited about the future.”

Force India are now closing in on McLaren for sixth in the constructor’s championship and Perez is locked in a tight battle for seventh in the drivers.

There are now only 3 seats remaining for 2019 and current Force India driver Esteban Ocon is likely to lose out with Williams being his only realistic option, he may find himself in a test and reserve role with either Force India or Mercedes for 2019.
